अजोऽपि सन्नव्ययात्मा भूतानामीश्वरोऽपि सन्। प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय संभवाम्यात्ममायया।।4.6।।

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)
ajaḥ api san avyayātmā bhūtānām īśvaraḥ api san। prakṛtim svām adhiṣṭhāya sambhavāmi ātma-māyayā।।4.6।।
Translation (अनुवाद)
Even though I am unborn (ajaḥ) and of imperishable nature (avyayātmā), even though I am the Lord (īśvaraḥ) of beings (bhūtānām), by governing My own nature (prakṛtim), I manifest (sambhavāmi) by My own māyā (ātma-māyayā).

Commentary (टीका)
This verse from the Bhagavad Gita explains the nature of divine incarnation as expounded by Krishna. Although Krishna identifies as unborn (aja) and of an imperishable essence (avyayātmā), He reveals that He is the īśvara (Lord) of all beings (bhūtānām), which highlights the divine sovereignty over creation. Unlike man, who is bound by karma, necessitating cycles of birth, Krishna explains that He, through His self-controlled nature (prakṛti), takes on embodiment through His illusory power (ātma-māyā). This means that while He appears to be born and embodied for those witnessing His divine 'appearance', it does not affect His true divine nature in any way. His birth and actions are out of His own will, unbound by material nature; thus, maintaining His supreme nature, even while appearing within the physical world.
The English commentary by Swami Sivananda describes the Lord's control over prakṛti (nature) and His embodiment being merely His līlā or divine play. The Hindi commentary expands on the divine play and nature, describing how the Lord's manifestation can be compared to an ever-present sun appearing to rise and set due to perception, or an enigmatic deity that maneuvers through His own cosmic illusion—māyā. The teachings combined emphasize the transcendental nature of Lord Krishna and His unaffected nature amidst His apparent avatāra (manifestation)."
