Translation (अनुवाद)
O Arjuna, just as a blazing fire turns the fuel to ashes, similarly, the fire of knowledge reduces all actions to ashes.

Commentary (टीका)
Just as fire turns fuel to ashes, the jñānāgni (fire of knowledge) destroys all karma (actions). Swami Sivananda's commentary suggests that actions, when burnt by this fire of knowledge, lose their efficacy to bind one to the cycle of birth and death. This highlights the transformative power of jñāna wherein actions can't generate future bondage. Jñāna obliterates the root of actions by removing ignorance and agencymentality. Thereby, prārabdha (fate due to past actions) remains but loses its painful/favorable significance on the enlightened, as realization transcends dualities of pleasure and pain. Swami Ramsukhdas translates jñāna into practical spiritual freedom, where the illusion of separate agency is lifted, showing all nature and hence its actions apart from the self. Once seen, even elementary karmic bonds dissolve, and only Paramātma (the ultimate self) remains.
