Commentary (टीका)
Swami Sivananda explains that the true sage, or the ātma-tṛptaḥ (one satisfied with the Self), is content without dependency on external objects or circumstances. For such individuals, the actions that typically bind ordinary people do not apply since they are satisfied and find joy within their own Self. The commentary insists on the perpetual and internal nature of happiness contrasted with the fleeting satisfaction granted by the changing external world.
Swami Ramsukhdas further elucidates the distinction between worldly and spiritual fulfillment. He remarks that worldly attachments and duties stem from perceived deficits in the self, leading people to look outside for comfort and satisfaction. However, the truly realized being, who has transcended these attachments, finds that their desires are naturally fulfilled and is no longer beholden to any worldly duties or needs. This state of intrinsic contentment is portrayed as the ultimate goal of spiritual discipline and realization.
