The one who does not follow the cycle of action thus ordained here, O Partha, lives sinfully, indulging in sense pleasures. Such a life is in vain.

Commentary (टीका)

This verse emphasizes the importance of following the cycle of action, which is a fundamental law of nature set by the Creator. It highlights that those who do not adhere to this law, and instead indulge in mere sensory pleasures, live a life devoid of purpose and meaning. Pravartita-cakra (the ordained cycle of action) demands that each individual fulfills their duties and contributes to the harmonious functioning of society and the cosmos. Indriyārāma (those addicted to sense pleasures) represents the opposite of this duty-bound life, leading to a mogha-jīvana (a vain life) where the true purpose of human existence is unfulfilled. The text underlines that living in alignment with ṛta (cosmic order) is essential for self-realization, whereas a life governed by selfish desires leads to chaos and sin. ---
