न हि प्रपश्यामि ममापनुद्या द्यच्छोकमुच्छोषणमिन्द्रियाणाम्। अवाप्य भूमावसपत्नमृद्धम् राज्यं सुराणामपि चाधिपत्यम्।।2.8।।

na hi prapaśyāmi mamāpanudyād yac chokam ucchoṣaṇam indriyāṇām avāpya bhūmāv asapatnam ṛddham rājyaṁ surāṇām api cādhipatyam.
Translation (अनुवाद)
Arjuna declares that he does not see how any achievement, even becoming the unrivalled king of a prosperous realm on earth, or attaining lordship over the gods, could remove his sorrow. His grief is so intense that it dries up his very senses.

In this sloka, Arjuna expresses his deep-seated grief and questions the utility of any material achievement as a means to relieve his intense sorrow. Despite the potential for enormous success, such as becoming an unrivalled ruler on earth or attaining the exalted lordship over divine beings, Arjuna feels that these would not alleviate his pain. His despair runs so deep that it affects his senses, symbolized here by the phrase "drying up of the senses" (*ucchoṣaṇam indriyāṇām*). This highlights the futility of external achievements in dealing with internal turmoil.
Swami Sivananda elaborates on Arjuna's inner conflict. Arjuna doubts even the most opulent gains could bring peace, as the thought of loss and destruction from war overwhelms him. This passage reflects on loss, not just in physical terms, but also the emotional and existential toll it takes on an individual. It strikingly illustrates the emptiness felt when faced with the potential loss of loved ones and suggests that true resolve and peace must come from within, rather than external circumstances.
