भोगैश्वर्यप्रसक्तानां तयापहृतचेतसाम्। व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिः समाधौ न विधीयते।।2.44।।

Translation (अनुवाद)
For those attached to pleasures and wealth, with their minds carried away by such desires, the resolute intellect does not settle in contemplation (पतंजलि योग सूत्र).

Commentary (टीका)
The verse emphasizes the inability of those engrossed in material pleasures and accumulations to attain a resolute or contemplative intellect, essential for spiritual realization. Such people, driven by the desires for comfort and superiority, find their minds distracted by transient joys and wealth, preventing them from establishing a resolute will towards achieving higher consciousness or spiritual goals.
In both commentaries, it is highlighted that attachment to sensory pleasures and worldly achievements can lead to a restless mind and turbulent thoughts, hindering one's capacity to meditate and achieve ultimate tranquility or spiritual enlightenment. True spiritual progress requires one’s intellect to be firm and unwavering, which is obstructed by indulgence in worldly desires (bhogaiśvarya). The most profound takeaway from this sloka is the lesson that material attachments distract and dissuade one from attaining focused enlightenment and steadiness of mind, a pivotal obstacle in Vedantic philosophy.
