यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः। वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः।।2.42।।

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)
yām imāṁ puṣpitāṁ vācaṁ pravadanti avipaścitaḥ। vedavādaratāḥ pārtha na anyat asti iti vādinaḥ।।2.42।।
Translation (अनुवाद)
Unwise individuals, O Pārtha (Arjuna), who delight in the flowery words of the Vedas, proclaiming that there is nothing else, become attracted to euphemistic Vedic speech that describes actions leading to heavenly pleasures.
अविपस्चित (अज्ञानी) लोग हे पार्थ (अर्जुन), वेद की पुष्पित वाणी में रमे हुए हैं और कह रहे हैं कि इसके अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहीं, वे इस सांसारिक भोगों में रचित वाणी को प्रसन्न होकर वर्णन करते हैं।

Commentary (टीका)
In this sloka, Lord Krishna addresses Arjuna, highlighting a fundamental dichotomy between the understanding of the wise and the unwise. The unwise, referred to as avipaścitaḥ, delight in the puṣpitāṁ vācaṁ (flowery speech) of the Vedas, mistaking mere rituals and the resultant joys of heaven for the ultimate goal of life. Such individuals focus on the vedavādaratāḥ—the eulogizing portions of the Vedas—which emphasize elaborate rituals and worldly rewards such as heavenly pleasures. They erroneously believe and propound that there is na anyat asti (nothing else beyond) these rituals and rewards, thus neglecting the profound philosophical truths and the pursuit of liberation (mokṣa).
The commentary explicates this human tendency to misinterpret the ultimate aim of Vedic teachings, which transcend mere rituals. The ritualistic portion (Karma Kanda), though an essential part of the Vedic literature, is often overemphasized, overshadowing the Jnana Kanda, which focuses on knowledge leading to self-realization and liberation from saṁsāra (the cycle of birth and death). The sloka, thus, serves as a caution against the allure of temporary, worldly successes and a call to deeper spiritual introspection that leads to eternal peace and liberation.
