Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, Lord Krishna transitions from discussing the wisdom handed down through Sāṅkhya (philosophical path focusing on knowledge of the Self) to the explanation of Yoga, which deals with the practical application of this knowledge through actions. Krishna directs Arjuna to now focus on the path of Karma Yoga, where actions are performed as an offering to the divine, unattached to outcomes, serving the higher purpose of self-purification and liberation. This is significant because it implies that with the right understanding and practice, one can transcend the binding effects of actions (karma-bandha) and achieve a state of liberation from the cyclical consequences pertaining to desires and duties. This passage advocates for the synthesis of knowledge and action, highlighting that realization is not only achieved through contemplation but also through the right execution of duties.
