Translation (अनुवाद)

O Arjuna (pārtha), do not yield to this impotence (klaibyam). It does not befit you. Cast off this petty faint-heartedness (hṛdayadaurbalyam) and arise, O scorcher of enemies (parantapa).

In this verse, Krishna addresses Arjuna using the name *pārtha* (son of Pritha), reminding him of his origins and the valor expected from someone of his lineage. He admonishes Arjuna for entertaining thoughts incompatible with his svabhāva (nature) and his dharma (duty as a warrior). The term *klaibyam* indicates impotence or lack of resolve, and Krishna emphatically insists that such a mindset is not worthy of Arjuna.

Krishna tells Arjuna to discard *kṣudram hṛdayadaurbalyam* (petty weakness of heart), which refers to the emotional and moral turmoil that contradicts the principles of a kṣatriya (warrior). The phrase *uttistha parantapa* serves as a clarion call for Arjuna to rise up and reclaim his identity as the scorcher of foes.

This verse underscores the Bhagavad Gītā's approach to dharma (duty) and the importance of steadfastness and courage in the face of adversity. Krishna's words aim to reinvigorate Arjuna's spirit, motivating him to adhere to his kṣatriya duties without succumbing to self-doubt. In doing so, Krishna seeks to guide Arjuna toward a path of right action consistent with his true nature and responsibilities.
