Sloka (श्लोक)
अयनेषु च सर्वेषु यथाभागमवस्थिताः। भीष्ममेवाभिरक्षन्तु भवन्तः सर्व एव हि।।1.11।।

Ayaneṣu ca sarveṣu yathābhāgam avasthitāḥ, Bhīṣmam evābhirakṣantu bhavantaḥ sarva eva hi.
Translation (अनुवाद)
May all of you take your positions in the various divisions of the army as allocated, and protect Bhīṣma exclusively.

- Commentary**: In this sloka, Duryodhana instructs his generals and warriors to station themselves properly and protect Bhīṣma from every flank. The emphasis on protecting Bhīṣma highlights his crucial significance in the battle. Duryodhana's strategy reflects his awareness of Bhīṣma's prowess as well his vital role in maintaining morale and strength in the Kaurava forces. In the English commentary by Swami Sivananda, the instruction is straightforward without additional explanation. The Hindi commentary by Swami Ramsukhdas offers deeper insights, suggesting that Duryodhana is particularly concerned about protecting Bhīṣma from Shikhandi, due to Bhīṣma's vow not to fight Shikhandi, who was previously a woman, now reborn as a male warrior.
Duryodhana's command also signifies a psychological strategy aiming to bolster the confidence of the Kaurava army by securing their strongest warrior.
