Translation/Explanation

English: Some dehinaḥ (embodied beings) enter yonim (wombs) for śarīratvāya (the purpose of embodiment); others enter sthāṇum (the immoveable), according to their karma (actions) and according to their śrutam (acquired knowledge).

Commentary

Some dehinaḥ (embodied beings) enter yonim (wombs), combined with the male seed, to take on a new body. This refers to those who, due to ignorance, undergo rebirth as embodied beings. Others, who are even more deluded, after death attain the state of sthāṇum (immoveable beings), such as trees and similar forms. "According to their karma" means in accordance with the actions they performed in this life, and "according to their śrutam" refers to the nature of knowledge they have acquired. Thus, the embodied beings take on forms corresponding to their karma and knowledge, as another śruti states: "they are born according to their knowledge."
