यह सूत्र बताता है कि जैसे कुल्हाड़ी आदि उपकरणों में कार्य का आरंभ और उसकी निवृत्ति प्रत्यक्ष देखी जाती है, वैसे ही अन्य कार्यों में भी आरंभ और निवृत्ति का अनुभव किया जाता है। यह उदाहरण देकर कार्य के प्रारंभ और समाप्ति के सिद्धांत को स्पष्ट किया गया है।

This sūtra states that, just as in the case of axes and similar instruments, the initiation and cessation of action are directly observed, so too in other actions, the beginning and end are experienced. By giving this example, the principle of the commencement and cessation of actions is clarified.
