एष तेऽग्निर्नचिकेतः स्वर्ग्यो यमवृणीथा द्वितीयेन वरेण । एतमग्निं तवैव प्रवक्श्यन्ति जनासस्तृतीयं वरं नचिकेतो वृणीष्व ॥ १९ ॥
eṣa te’gnirnaciketaḥ svargyo yamavṛṇīthā dvitīyena vareṇa । etamagniṃ tavaiva pravakśyanti janāsastṛtīyaṃ varaṃ naciketo vṛṇīṣva ॥ 19 ॥

Translation/Explanation
Hindi: हे नचिकेत, यह वही अग्नि है जो स्वर्ग प्राप्ति का साधन है, जिसे तुमने अपने दूसरे वर के रूप में माँगा था। लोग इस अग्नि को केवल तुम्हारे नाम से जानेंगे। अब, हे नचिकेत, तुम तीसरा वर माँगो।
English: O Naciketas, this is that agni which is the means to attain svarga, which you chose as your second vara. People will refer to this agni as yours alone. Now, O Naciketas, choose the third vara.
Commentary
O Naciketas, this is the agni leading to svarga that you craved for, by the second vara; and the expression ‘the vara has been granted’ should be supplied by way of concluding what has been said again, people will call this agni by your name; this is the fourth vara which I granted being delighted with you; O Naciketas, demand the third vara. The meaning is that Mṛtyu considered himself a debtor if that were not granted.
