Sloka (श्लोक)

ज्ञानं तेऽहं सविज्ञानमिदं वक्ष्याम्यशेषतः।
यज्ज्ञात्वा नेह भूयोऽन्यज्ज्ञातव्यमवशिष्यते।।7.2।।

पदच्छेद / Padaccheda

ज्ञानम् ते अहम् सविज्ञानम् इदम् वक्ष्यामि अशेषतः। यत् ज्ञात्वा न इह भूयः अन्यत् ज्ञातव्यम् अवशिष्यते।

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

jñānaṁ te'haṁ savijñānamidaṁ vakṣyāmy aśeṣataḥ। yaj jñātvā neha bhūyo'nyaj jñātavyam avaśiṣyate।।7.2।।

Translation (अनुवाद)

I shall declare to you in full this knowledge along with wisdom, after knowing which, nothing else remains to be known here.

Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, jñāna refers to indirect knowledge, or parokṣa-jñāna, which is gained from the scriptures, mainly the Upanishads. Vijñāna is the direct realization or experiential wisdom, also termed aparokṣa-jñāna. The Lord emphasizes this type of knowledge so Arjuna pays close attention, ensuring that through this complete knowledge, nothing would remain unknown.

The Hindi commentary elaborates on Bhagavān's assurance in describing both the theoretical and the experiential aspects of the self-knowledge. The myriad of manifestations and powers of the divine are infinite and fascinating, however, understanding the essence resolves all quests for knowledge. The real knowledge imbibes the truth that everything is but an extension of the Paramātmā, hence, nothing further remains unknown.

Jñāna enables the understanding of divine creation, while vijñāna provides the realization of the singular omnipresent Paramātmā, wiping away any residual ignorance. After acquiring such wisdom, there will be no remaining queries about existence.
