Sloka 6.22

Sloka (श्लोक)

यं लब्ध्वा चापरं लाभं मन्यते नाधिकं ततः।
यस्मिन्स्थितो न दुःखेन गुरुणापि विचाल्यते।।6.22।।

यं लब्ध्वा च अपरं लाभं मन्यते न अधिकं ततः यस्मिन् स्थितः न दुःखेन गुरुणा अपि विचाल्यते

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

yaṁ labdhvā ca aparaṁ lābhaṁ manyate na adhikaṁ tataḥ | yasmin sthito na duḥkhena guruṇā api vicālyate ||6.22||

Translation (अनुवाद)

The gain attained, beyond which there is no desire for a greater gain, is the realization of the Self. Upon establishing oneself in that supreme state, one is not shaken even by profound grief. The ultimate fulfillment and stability are found when unattached to worldly gains, rooted in the bliss of the Self.

आत्मानुभूति प्राप्त कर लेने पर, उससे अधिक किसी दूसरे लाभ की इच्छा नहीं रह जाती। इस परम स्थिति में स्थिर होकर, बड़े से बड़े दुःख से भी विचलित नहीं होता। चरम संतोष और स्थिरता उसी में है जो सांसारिक लाभों में आसक्त हुए बिना, आत्मानन्द में स्थिर हो।

Commentary (टीका)

The sloka describes the attainment of Self-realization, which is considered the ultimate achievement beyond which no other gain appears greater. Once established in this supreme Self, a person becomes unwavering and immune to the greatest of life's sorrows because the bliss of the Self transcends worldly perturbations. The commentary by Swami Sivananda emphasizes this by highlighting the distinction between bodily/painful experiences and the mind's detachment from them through self-identification with Brahman, which is beyond such dualities. Similarly, Swami Ramsukhdas elucidates how once real "ultimate bliss" is attained, nothing else holds influence over oneself; not even the greatest sorrows can disturb one who has tasted the true essence of the Self, thereby becoming detached from the worldly temptations and pains that typically sway minds enthralled in mundane pleasures. In essence, it is about discovering a state beyond body-mind identification which offers the profound realization of one's true nature, a condition of permanent peace and contentment.
