Commentary (टीका)
The sloka underscores the process and importance of approaching a guru for gaining spiritual knowledge. This method involves three critical components: *praṇipāta* (complete surrender or deep reverence), *paripraśna* (inquiring questions with a sincere intent to understand), and *sevā* (dedicated service). The role of a guru or teacher in imparting true knowledge is emphasized, as they are *tattvadarśin* (seers of truth) who can guide the aspirant towards realizing ultimate truths. The English commentary explains that mere outward acts like prostration without internal sincerity or lack of true devotion may not yield the desired fruits; similarly, Swami Ramsukhdas in the Hindi commentary emphasizes the prerequisites of humility, service with sincerity, and a deep desire to unravel questions of the self. Thus, the importance of having a qualified teacher who not only understands scriptures but has also realized the truth is stressed in the pursuit of self-realization. ```
