Translation (अनुवाद)

    • English:**

It is better to live in this world by begging for alms than to slay my great-souled teachers. If I kill these desiring wealth, I shall be enjoying enjoyments stained with their blood.

The sloka presents Arjuna grappling with a moral and ethical dilemma. He finds himself caught between his duty as a warrior and his reverence towards his respected elders and teachers. Arjuna argues that even living by begging, which is seen as ignoble for a Kshatriya, seems more honorable than enjoying the kingdom stained with the blood of his gurus. This reflects the deep conflict within Arjuna as he weighs the consequences of his actions against the traditional values and dharma (duty). It signifies the beginning of Arjuna's inner turmoil and confusion, demonstrating the profound psychological and ethical layers found within the *Bhagavad Gita*. Notably, Arjuna questions the very desirability of the results of the war, as they would be tainted by the blood of those he respects. The commentary outlines this conflict and suggests that Arjuna's reasoning is not just about ordinary life choices but an inquiry into the righteous path traversing through the intricate layers of dharma and moral obligations.
