सन्त्यन्ये प्रतिबन्धाः पुंसः संसारहेतवो दृष्टाः । तेषामेवं मूलं प्रथमविकारो भवत्यहंकारः ॥ २९८ ॥
Translation: Among the obstacles that man faces, the root cause leading to the first transformation is ego.

यावत्स्यात्स्वस्य संबन्धोऽहंकारेण दुरात्मना । तावन्न लेशमात्रापि मुक्तिवार्ता विलक्षणा ॥ २९९ ॥
Translation: As long as an individual's association with the egoistic nature persists, the subject of liberation is not even remotely possible.

यो वा पुरे सोऽहमिति प्रतीतो बुद्ध्या प्रकॢप्तस्तमसातिमूढया । तस्यैव निःशेषतया विनाशे ब्रह्मात्मभावः प्रतिबन्धशून्यः ॥ ३०१ ॥
Translation: When the identification of 'I am he' created by the deluded intellect is completely destroyed, the realization of Brahman as one's own true nature remains unimpeded.

ब्रह्मानन्दनिधिर्महाबलवताहंकारघोराहिना संवेष्ट्यात्मनि रक्ष्यते गुणमायाइश्चण्डेस्त्रिभिर्मस्तकैः । विज्ञानाख्यमहासिना श्रुतिमता विच्छिद्य शीर्षत्रयं निर्मूल्याहिमिमं निधिं सुखकरं धीरोऽनुभोक्तुंक्षमः ॥ 30२ ॥
Translation: The wise one is capable of experiencing the blissful treasure of Brahman by cutting off the three heads of the serpent of ego with the great sword of knowledge.

यावद्वा यत्किंचिद्विषदोषस्फूर्तिरस्ति चेद्देहे । कथमारोग्याय भवेत्तद्वदहन्तापि योगिनो मुक्त्यै ॥ ३0३ ॥
Translation: As long as there is even a trace of poison in the body, how can health be attained? Similarly, ego must be eliminated for liberation in a yogi.

अहमोऽत्यन्तनिवृत्त्या तत्कृतनानाविकल्पसंहृत्या । प्रत्यक्तत्त्वविवेकादिदमहमस्मीति विन्दते तत्त्वम् ॥ ३०४ ॥
Translation: By complete cessation of the ego and dissolution of various distinctions created by it, through the discernment of the inner self, one realizes the truth "I am this."

अहंकारे कर्तर्यहमिति मतिं मुञ्च सहसा विकारात्मन्यात्मप्रतिफलजुषि स्वस्थितिमुषि । यदध्यासात्प्राप्ता जनिमृतिजरादुःखबहुला प्रतीचश्चिन्मूर्तेस्तव सुखतनोः संसृतिरियम् ॥ ३0५ ॥
Translation: Abandon the notion of 'I' in the doer, as the self is falsely reflected in the fluctuating mind, leading to the cycle of birth and death, originating from the pure consciousness which is your essence of bliss.

सदैकरूपस्य चिदात्मनो विभोर् आनन्दमूर्तेरनवद्यकीर्तेः । नैवान्यथा क्वाप्यविकारिणस्ते विनाहमध्यासममुष्य संसृतिः ॥ ३०६ ॥
Translation: There is no transmigration for the ever-uniform, conscious, and infinite Self, the embodiment of bliss and without blemish, except through the misapprehension of 'I'.

तस्मादहंकारमिमं स्वशत्रुं भोक्तुर्गले कण्टकवत्प्रतीतम् । विच्छिद्य विज्ञानमहासिना स्फुटं भुङ्क्ष्वात्मसाम्राज्यसुखं यथेष्टम् ॥ ३०७ ॥
Translation: Thus, sever this ego, your enemy, which is like a thorn in your throat, with the great sword of knowledge; then enjoy the bliss of self-sovereignty as you wish.

ततोऽहमादेर्विनिवर्त्य वृत्तिं संत्यक्तरागः परमार्थलाभात् । तूष्णीं समास्स्वात्मसुखानुभूत्या पूर्णात्मना ब्रह्मणि निर्विकल्पः ॥ ३०८ ॥
Translation: Thus, having withdrawn attachment from the beginning and attained the ultimate reality, I remain silently in self-bliss and completely absorbed in undifferentiated Brahman.

समूलकृत्तोऽपि महानहं पुनः व्युल्लेखितः स्याद्यदि चेतसा क्षणम्। संजीव्य विक्षेपशतं करोति नभस्वता प्रावृषि वारिदो यथा ॥ ३०९ ॥
Translation: Even when thoroughly uprooted, the great ego, if momentarily recalled by the mind, revives and creates numerous distractions, just like a cloud rising again with the winds in the monsoon.

निगृह्य शत्रोरहमोऽवकाशः क्वचिन्न देयो विषयानुचिन्तया । स एव संजीवनहेतुरस्य प्रक्षीणजम्बीरतरोरिवाम्बु ॥ ३१० ॥
Translation: The opportunity for arrogance of the enemy should never be given through contemplation of sense objects; it alone is the cause of revival, like water to a withered lemon tree.
