Liberation Is Through Self-Realization, Not Scriptural Knowledge

Summary (in English)

In these verses, the emphasis is on realizing the unity of the Self, known as ātmaikyabodha, as the pathway to liberation (mukti), as opposed to mere scriptural study, rituals, or actions. Sloka 6 conveys that even after eons of religious practices or study of scriptures, liberation cannot be achieved without self-realization. It critiques superficial spiritual practices not founded on self-awareness, advocating for an internal awakening to the true self, as central to Vedantic philosophy. Sloka 7 further elaborates on the insufficiency of material wealth and prescribed actions (karma) in achieving spiritual immortality, emphasizing self-knowledge as the true route to liberation, aligning these insights with the highest ideals of Advaita Vedanta.
