Commentary (टीका)
This verse emphasizes the preciousness of human life and the critical importance of striving for self-liberation. Despite the rarity of obtaining a human birth, achieving manhood, and acquiring scriptural knowledge, a person with a deluded mind who does not endeavor for spiritual liberation is considered to be committing self-destruction due to incorrect priorities and attachments. The *labdhvā* (having obtained) accentuates the opportunity presented by human life, and *ātmahā* (self-destructive) underscores the gravitas of failing to pursue one's highest potential. This sloka urges practitioners to reflect on their life purpose and channel their efforts toward true liberation from the cycle of *saṁsāra* (worldly existence) fueled by ignorance and misunderstanding.
