This sūtra explains that the establishment of principles occurs in three ways: (1) when a principle is validated within the same philosophical system, it is called samānatantrasiddha; (2) when it is validated by another system, it is paratanttrasiddha; and (3) when it is validated by the tenets of an opposing system, it is pratitantasiddhānta. This classification clarifies the different modes of validation recognized in Nyāya philosophy.
