यह सूत्र बताता है कि जब मन, आत्मा के उस प्रदेश के साथ संपर्क करता है जिसमें ज्ञान निहित है, तब स्मृति उत्पन्न होती है। किंतु स्मृति की उत्पत्ति एक ही समय में नहीं होती, अर्थात् मन एक साथ अनेक स्थानों पर संपर्क स्थापित नहीं कर सकता, इसलिए स्मृति भी एक साथ उत्पन्न नहीं हो सकती।
