इस सूत्र का अभिप्राय है कि जिन वस्तुओं का स्वयं कोई लक्षण नहीं है, लेकिन वे किसी लक्षण से लक्षित वस्तुओं के द्वारा पहचानी जाती हैं, उनकी भी प्रमेयता (ज्ञेयता) सिद्ध हो जाती है। अर्थात्, जब किसी वस्तु का लक्षण प्रत्यक्ष नहीं है, परंतु वह किसी लक्षणयुक्त वस्तु के माध्यम से संकेतित है, तो उसकी भी प्रमाण्य स्थिति स्थापित हो जाती है।
