This verse classifies the human faculties into two types: ''buddhīndriyāṇi'' (organs of knowledge) and ''karmendriyāṇi'' (organs of action). ''Buddhīndriyāṇi'' are responsible for the perception of the external world through the senses: hearing (ears), skin (touch), eyes (sight), nose (smell), and tongue (taste). These facilitate an individual's interaction with the world by obtaining knowledge. 

On the other hand, ''karmendriyāṇi'' are instrumental in performing actions: speech (mouth), hands, feet, anus, and genitals, each with its respective function and action. These enable a person to interact with and influence the world actively. This division reinforces the understanding of the human being as a complex integration of sensory and motor functions, indispensable for cognitive and physical engagement with the environment.
